September 26, 2016 - 1Month!! - Medina, NY

Howdy Howdy,

This week was crazy awesome! My homesickness has gone away. I've been able to get lost in the work. I love it here in Medina, the people are awesome. Elder Verdine and I went to a beach of Lake Ontario last p-day! It was super cool and very pretty. Looked just like the ocean! Haha! We handed out 11 Book of Mormon's Tuesday, we met with a less active who has bed bugs in their house.... we were hoping they would come outside to talk but they invited us in and we couldn't say no. So after meeting with them we went straight home and got out
of our clothes and threw them into the drier to kill the bed bugs, that was scary! Haha a lot of people here are on welfare. So they don't really care about their house or anything so it's pretty ghetto.

Wednesday we went to Middleport which is about 10 minutes away from Medina and we did some tracting, we met a lady named Abby! She is 21 and has never heard of Mormons before! We thought it was crazy, we
carried on a conversation with her for awhile. We got into prayer and the back ground of the Book of Mormon. Then we told her about missions and she thought we were the craziest people ever for leaving our loved ones
at home to dedicate 2 years to our Father in Heaven and our Savior Jesus Christ. After being in Middleport for the morning we went to Sister Pace's house for service.  I told her about Tobin and how  I worked there and all that! She was so excited because they are remodeling a house they bought to down size. So we will have lots of service hours of helping them paint and home restoration things! She pays us with pizza so it's all good! Haha

Thursday we had a lot of people we were going to see but like always, they fell through except one, Christine! She is one of our investigators that is not progressing... so we sat down and talked to her and she straight up said she wasn't going to change because her God doesn't want her to. But she wants to pay tithing and do everything a member does she just doesn't want to be baptized and still wants to smoke! So Elder Verdine took it into his hands and we ended up dropping my first investigator. We could still feel the spirit while doing that! It was awesome! In the afternoon we had an appointment with a couple, Tessa and Donald. Donald is a less active
and Tessa is a non member, she also has more facial hair than me. Haha We had taught them the restoration and Tessa said she believed in all that, so we read the introduction and broke it up and helped them grasp it. After our lesson with them I felt the impression to talk about baptism. She said it was something she might wanna do. So I
asked her to be baptized and prepare herself by November 15th, she said yes!! I'm so excited!

Friday we had zone meeting! My first one ever! It was super cool and the training was awesome! Our zone leaders are way cool, Elder Sevyand Elder Larsen, our sister training leaders are Sister Furiman and Sister Van Kampen! Haha kinda funny seeing her after high school! President Evans had training in how to study with our iPads more
effectively. All around it was an awesome zone meeting! After the meeting all of us went to a Chinese buffet! And then we had a  1.5 hour car ride back to our area..

Saturday we had a lot of appointments that fell through so we went tracting on Church Street, which is the super ghetto spot of Medina! No one answered their door.  I was super bummed out but one of our investigators was getting baptized!! Sue Koleszar got baptized on Saturday. She is way cool and has been meeting with missionaries for 8 years now and has finally come to know that this is the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm so happy for her and the decision she made to be baptized! And it was myone month mark! So we went and got some root beer to celebrate!

Sunday we went to church and Cordell and Susan were there!! It was awesome, we had planned on going to the sites with them on Sunday as well. So after church we loaded up the cars and headed for Palmyra! We
went to the Smith Farm first. We did the tour and then we got to go into the grove! Susan and Cordell wanted sometime alone so we had the kids hang out with us and Eder and Sister Woodhouse. After about 20
minutes I felt the impression to go find Susan an Cordell. So that's what Elder Verdine and I did. After we found them we talked about their experience. They both said they had felt the spirit and know that the vision happened there. Well after hearing that I asked them to be baptized on October 22nd. They said yes! But there's a lot they
need to do before then. I love that family so much. They are my favorite!!

After seeing what the Sacred Grove did for Cordell and Susan, it made me realize that it changed my life a lot too. I wouldn't have been able to meet or teach these wonderful people if it wasn't for that experience that I had. I'm so grateful that Joseph Smith was willing to follow the commandments so that he might obtain the record and restore this ever lasting gospel back upon the face of this earth. I love my savior Jesus Christ. He was crucified for me. I love my Father in Heaven with all my heart. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to serve the lord.  What a blessed mission to have all the restoration sites at our finger tips to help convert people and let them know for themselves if this is the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.  I say this multiple times a day... that I know it was restored through Joseph Smith, that he is the prophet of the restoration. There's no doubt in my mind. I love this gospel and work!!

Love and Miss you all so much. Hope all is well.

Love,
Elder Judy

September 19, 2016 - Howdy - Medina, NY

Wow what a week!

It's been nuts, I flew out to the mission field on Tuesday! It was so good to hear from the family and hear your voices! It made me superrr home sick tho... I struggled the first couple days in the field.  Everyone would ask me where I'm from and I say Idaho while I would start to cry... Haha love being a baby.

The first thing the AP's and President Evans did to us was when we landed was they took us down to downtown Rochester gave us a couple Book of Mormons and some restoration pamphlets and kicked us to the curb to do some street contacting. It was super scary at first but once we got the hang of it, it was super fun! We spent the night in the mission home which is in Rochester and we woke up and the first thing we did Wednesday morning was drove down to palmyra and went to the Hill Cumorah and then to the Sacred Grove!!! It was so cool! I went to the same spot that changed my life a year ago! The cool thing about the Sacred Grove is that we can be alone and read and study by are selves.  It was so cool to be there as a missionary!

Well my trainer is Elder Verdine! He is super cool we get along great! He's an answer to my prayers! He's from Portland Oregon! He leaves after training me so he is kinda trunky, but it's good! We are serving in Medina, New York.  It's a very small town about an hour away from Rochester and 40ish minutes to Buffalo! It's super cool here, the people here are so nice.  I love it! We got 3 investigators throughout the week! Susan is who I started teaching we taught her my second night here, she came to church and we set her for baptism on October 22! But she doesn't want to move forward without her boyfriend... So we started teaching him, he seems interested but it'll take time! I'm so excited for them tho. It's crazy to see people how the Lord does, I barely know these people and I already love them so much and care for them. Susan and Cordell have 3 kids, Marquess, Marcus, Messiah! They are a little black family. Marquess is 8 years old and wants to be baptized with his mom. It's so cool! We helped Susan out with a garage sell that she was having Saturday morning and her son Marquess has been wanting to have a lemonade stand all summer long so we helped her surprise him with a stand.  He made 7 dollars and was the happiest 8 year old ever!

It's starting to get kinda chilly here.. It's like 50 degrees in the morning and the humidity so it just goes straight through ya! Haha. We haven't taught to many lessons but we have been spending a lot of time street contacting in downtown Medina! We handed out 14 books this week!! It's so cool to see people change and open up within seconds of meeting them!  It's pretty tough adjusting to the missionary life. But I know the blessing it will bring to everyone I love back home... I can't begin to tell you how much I miss all of you! It's beyond the description of words! I miss all of you sooooo much!!! I pray for everyone everyday. I hope all is well at home!

Love and miss y'all so much!!!

September 9, 2016 - Last P-Day in the Provo MTC

Hello Everyone!!

I got my flight plans last Friday! We fly out Tuesday morning at 7:20 A.M.  But we have to be at the travel center at 3:30 A.M. not excited to get up that early but couldn't be more excited to get out of the MTC and start preaching the gospel to real investigators!!  I'm kinda nervous that I might get a disobedient trainer so please pray for a great trainer!! I've made some life long friends here! Elder Campbell is from Blackfoot and we have become really good friends!! Elder Hardman is from St. George, he's way cool and wants me to come down after our mission and hang out.

This week at the  MTC went by so fast!!  Sunday devo they had Chad Lewis come speak!  He's a retired NFL football player! He wasn't really spiritual but it was awesome! Guess who spoke at Tuesday night devo?? D. Todd Christofferson!! It was awesome! He talked mainly on teaching repentance and baptizing converts. I loved his talk!  It was a special experience to listen to an apostle of God talk about the work that we about to embark on! I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be a missionary!!

This week Elder Gold and I got a new TRC investigator her name is Yiu, she is Chinese and here at college! She is super receptive of the things we have taught her so far! It's awesome to get this experience before we enter into the real deal!

I got a haircut today from the MTC and they actually did a really good job!  I was scared going into it because of all the rumors people were saying, but they are really good! A lot better than Great Clips at home! Haha!

Thank you mom for the package!! I saw Jaxon Jardine on Wednesday!! Hes doing awesome! He'll be an awesome missionary! Everyone needs to email me, I love the support!

Love and miss everyone!! God speed! "God be with you till we meet again"

September 2, 2016 - Hello Everybody! - Provo MTC

Howdy! Howdy!

The MTC is such a cool place! My first weekend here was super long and felt like it dragged on forever... but once I fell asleep Sunday night it has just cruised! It's crazy! Elder Gold and I have been studying our time away when we can. We have been learning so much! And we have memorized everything from the First Vision to the third lesson, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The food is okay... it all tastes the same! Ha! I've seen Elder Judy a lot! He's awesome! The missionaries that came in this Wednesday are cool, I went to high school with Elder Boyle, he played on the basketball team and he's in my zone! Brad, or Elder Stevens left Wednesday... that was a sad night. Haha! We both cried a little and I left our door cracked so he could come in at 3 in the morning before they left and say good bye! It  was pretty funny.

The devotionals here are so sweet! It's crazy how much you feel the spirit as a missionary! My whole zone is in the choir! We sang in the Tuesday night devo! Elder Gold is a cool guy he's just like Napoleon Dynomite! It's pretty funny. Here at the MTC they give us the opportunity to practice teaching! They call it TRC and your investigator could be nonmember or a member! It's so awesome! We have been teaching Jameson! He's going to school at UVU and living with his aunt! We think he is a member but throughout the 3 times that we have taught him we can see that he is growing closer to Christ. The last lesson we taught him was last night and we taught him about the atonement of Jesus Christ. We went as in depth it as we could. By the end of the lesson we had Jameson and ourselves teary eyed... I know and I can testify that Jesus is the Christ, he is our savior and our redeemer he is the way back to our father in heaven. Without Christ' willingness to take upon him our sins there would be no plan of salvation and we wouldn't have a way to be cleansed from sin so that we can dwell in our father's presences once again. The atonement doesn't just help take our sins away, it helps us to become new men and women and helps us strengthen our relationship with Christ and our father in heaven! I love this gospel! I am loving it here at the MTC! I love and miss all of you at home! God speed.

Love,
